Garlic Shrimp Pasta

I’m back to doing my laundry and cleaning my room and cooking my food.. no more maid :( what a bummer!

I didn’t know what to eat and when I opened the fridge there’s plain pasta and there’s shrimp so I consulted Mr. Google and “Garlic Shrimp Pasta” was the top 3 from my search as since almost of the ingredients are available in our kitchen I tried to make one!

  • Put the pasta on to cook.
  • While the pasta is cooking, heat the oil in a large skillet.
  • Add the shrimp, garlic, salt and pepper and red pepper flakes to taste.
  • After a minute or two, as soon as the shrimp are pink and opaque, remove them from the pan.
  • Add butter and wine in the skillet and turn the heat up to medium high.
  • Cook until it has reduced by half.
  • Drain the pasta, reserving a small cup of pasta water.
  • Return the shrimp to the skillet and cook until heated through.
  • Add the parsley and mix.
  • Add the pasta, and cook another minute or two over high heat.
  • If it seems dry, add a little of the reserved pasta water.
  • Serve piping hot, garnishing with additional fresh parsley if desired.

Too bad I have only me and my trance music here at home!

Day 20 – Something you crave a lot.

Shawarma

I have been craving for this for a few months already and I couldn’t seem to find it here in SG, my cousin told me that I can find it at Tanjong Pagar.  I tried Arab street but no luck.  When I came home this month and went to Greenhills, the store who sells the best Shawarma was closed!  Maybe I’ll try the one at Tanjong Pagar.

this is why I’m a fatty part 2

Nasi Lemak, this one’s supposed to have  roasted peanuts together with the dried anchovies but since peanuts are really bad for my asthma I always ask them to remove it.  It’s the National dish of Malaysia, I just Google it now! hahaha

My banana is from my home country hahaha, seems all fruits here in SG are imported

Got fed up with Häagen-Dazs so I changed to Ben and Jerry’s yum yum!

I really need to get back to gym but when the good Lord showered the world with laziness I got it all!

Anyway, I wonder if google translate is 100% accurate, I know someone who speak french and I asked him to translate the below sentence and he gave me different translation from the one google gave me.

Votre répétiteur – une nouvelle approche pour les cours particuliers

My friend’s translation — votre means another répétiteur – une meanig 1 nouvelle meaning new approche = approach  pour = for  les cours = course particuliers. = particular

Gooogle’s translation — Your tutor – a new approach to tutoring.

Now, when I translate the output google gave me back to french it gave me a different one. It say “Votre tuteur – une nouvelle approche de tutorat.”

whatever…

Lucky Me Pancit Canton with Fried Chicken Wings

This was my breakfast and lunch yesterday, I missed pancit canton, when I was in college, every time I go home and I don’t like the food that’s in the table I would cook me a pancit canton and have it with rice.  Chinese people here find it awkward that we pinoys eat noodle with rice, kanya kanyang trip yan!

Doritos and Cookies

This was my lunch the other day, I really need to learn how to cook more and eat real food.  My Team lead resigned and he told me he will remember me when he sees junk food because I always bring junk food in office and make everybody eat my junk food, hahaha, what to do? I can’t help it, I cannot live without junk food.  I remember someone told me he wonders how many Lays Potato chips stocks I have at home and always have one when I come to office.

If I were in manila I would always eat V-cut but  here you can only buy it from Lucky Plaza and it’s really expensive.

Super Spicy Beef Kaldereta

Kaldereta is a dish popular in the Philippines, especially in Luzon island. Its common ingredients are cuts of pork, beef or goat with tomato paste or tomato sauce with liver spread added to it. In Metro Manila it is more commonly added with potatoes but in other regions such as Southern Tagalog provinces, it is simply the sauce and the cuts of meat that are used. There are other meats that can also be used such as chicken but pork, beef and goat are the three more popular cuts of meat used. – Wikipedia

I used my friend Pocholo’s recipe, he usually brings food to office and damn he is really a good cook, he brought beef kaldereta twice as I remember and I liked it, no.. scratch that… I loved it… and it had been couple of weeks already that I’m pestering him to teach me to cook, so there, he told me his secrets…

I didn’t used liver spread as it’s also not in his recipe and they don’t sell it here, I think it’s not allowed as Muslim religion is dominant here in Singapore… Can you believe I found a beef bacon with halal sign here? hahaha, amazing!

It turned out to taste good but a bit more spicy than it should be, but that can be excused as I am just starting to learn to cook, and I think I am getting better at it… last week I cooked Beef Sinigang and it taste good, well at least for me :-D
